Christ Church Henton PCC
This charity is being highlighted during the homecoming 5th leg of the journey from Lizard Point to Henton in Somerset.
Christ Church Henton is a vibrant church in a 3 church Benefice of St Matthews Wookey, Christ Church Coxley and Christ Church Henton the priest in charge being the Revd Angela Syer. Having lost its Post Office and Pub the church is now uppermost in leading community activities. It has regular attendees from the Nursing home some 80 yards away and attendances regularly reach forty for a communion service.
However, Christ Church Henton has only limited facilities for fellowship and activities outside the normal Sunday Service. With no running water or Toilet the PCC are determined to bring this 19th Century church into the 21st century by upgrading the facilities and therefore any donation will be greatly received. Initial investigations reveal we will need to set a target of £50,000 to bring about the required improvements.
We are asking for anybody in Henton and the surrounding area and both past and present parisioners to be generous and contribute towards these desparately needed facilities. To this end a page has been set up with www.mycharitypage.com/ChristChurchHentonPCC please just click on this link to donate to Christ Church Henton funds.
For the previous 4 legs of the journey it has been a furthest compass point of ENWS that has been the ultimate destination. However for the fifth Leg the journey changes to one of ‘Homecoming’ having been away from home some 144 days when I arrive at the final southerly point at Lizard Point. This journey is the shortest in time and distance of only 12 days and about 188 miles to get to our target would mean about £266 per mile. While I expect the other charities to have national appeal we can only reasonable expect those who might benefit from the new facilities to contribute. However, if it was not for a brave few determined PCC members raising over £30,000 for roof repairs in the 1980’s there would be no functioning church here anymore. In this age of competiting prorities the church cannot afford to be left behind. You do not have to go far to find redundant churches Trinity Church Godney, or East Horrington are just two near by. You thus have a choice put your trust in the Lord and place a few extra pounds into the collection bag or spend them on lottery tickets. If you know you are going to win then that’s fine, as you will be able to be more generous, otherwise gift us your pounds and the facilities will look after themselves.
As a further impetus to raising funds it will be expected that while the walk takes place the congregation singing any hymn with the word “walk” therein, should put say an extra £1 in the collection bag. Two hymns that are known to contain the word are number 81, Brother, sister, let me serve you and of course number 32, And did those feet in ancient time, walk on England’s mountain green.
